Hong Kong man jailed for molesting girl he met online
August 25th, 2009 - 1:08 pm ICT by IANSHong Kong, Aug 25 (DPA) A 26-year-old man has been jailed in Hong Kong after being convicted of molesting a 13-year-old girl he met in an internet chatroom, a court report said Tuesday.
Cheung Ho-pan was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault of the girl he met online in early 2007. He was sentenced to three years and 10 months.
At the hearing Monday, the court heard the victim, now 15, agreed to meet Cheung in May 2007 after taking part in sex chats with him online.
Their meetings resulted in a series of sexual assaults, one taking place at the girl’s home, another on the staircase in a rail station and one in love hotel where Cheung demanded oral sex and attempted to have intercourse with the girl.
The girl later told her family who reported Cheung to the police.
In mitigation, Cheung said he had sought a relationship with the girl because his marriage had soured after the death of his young daughter in 2007.
But sentencing him to jail, Deputy District Judge Johnny Chan called his crime “the worst of its kind”.
