Dec 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) For high school country star Holland Reynolds, this was an experience that she would remember for the rest of her life. Although the 16-year-old collapsed half way through a race of a state cross country championship, she struggled to crawl across the finishing line for the sake of her sick coach.
Holland Reynolds was participating in California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Championships in Fresco, which involved covering a distance of 3.1-mile. The distance was not much of a problem for her as she has emerged triumphant in the same race several times before. However, this time despite her destiny’s cruelty, she overcame all friction to finish the race. Holland Reynolds started feeling intense pain and fatigue while she was two-thirds of the way through and collapsed about a feet away from the finishing line. However, despite the pain, dehydration and mild hypothermia, she literally made a serious attempt to crawl on her knees and hands to finish the race. Her overall rank in the race went down to 37th right from fifth. However, within her team, she stood fifth, to get the final point, that sustained her the title. She was able to show a valiant performance, that was good enough to take her team to the state championship.
A few days ago, Holland Reynolds’s coach Jim Tracy was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Reportedly, this was the last time that the coach trained the team. Holland Reynolds said that she wanted it really badly to win the race and make her coach happy. Jim Tracy was delighted to know that the combined scores of the team made it win the state title. This would not have been possible without Holland Reynolds’ efforts.
