History made as all horses fall during UK race and fail to finish

London, Mar 19 (ANI): For the first time ever in the history of horseracing in Britain, none of the horses in the competition managed to finish the race after every horse fell.

The race was declared void due to a remounting rule, introduced two years ago to improve race safety in England, meant that none of the jockeys was allowed to remount meaning the race was struck from the record.

“I had the race in the bag but there were a few people around the fence that caught her eye and she half stopped at the fence then refused,” the Daily Mail quoted a disappointed Lane as saying.

“I knew not to remount, but it’s silly. The vet checked the mare and she was fine. All I had to do was jump back on and walk past the post,” he said.

It is the first time this has happened since the rule came into force.

“This shows the new rules in action,” bookmaker Corals’ spokesman, David Stevens said.

“Beforehand, jockeys would always have been able to remount and continue the race. I guess it is something which may now happen more and more,” he stated.

Before the rule came into force in November 2009, the policy had last been considered after dual Gold Cup winner Kauto Star was remounted in a novices’ chase at Exeter in 2005, but was found to be injured.

Under the new ruling, jockeys cannot remount to complete the race and can only ride back to the unsaddling area once they have been given the all clear by the vet or doctor. (ANI)
