Hindus laud Malaysian postage stamp of Mahamariamman Temple
August 25th, 2010 - 6:49 pm ICT by ANINevada (US), Aug 25 (ANI): Hindus have applauded Malaysian postage stamp of Sri Mahamariamman Temple, said to be the oldest functioning and richest Hindu temple in Malaysia.
Noted Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Malaysian postage stamp of Hindu temple was a great honor for Hindus worldwide.
Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged other countries of the world also to produce stamps about symbols and concepts of Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world with rich philosophical thought and about one billion adherents, whose ultimate goal was moksh (liberation).
Founded in 1873, Sri Mahamariamman Temple includes a five-tiered gopuram having 242 idols, a silver chariot made with 350 kilograms of silver and is re-consecrated every 12 years.
Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, postal services company Pos Malaysia Berhad has about 1270 outlets. Dr. Aseh bin Che Mat is its Board Chairman while Syed Faisal Albar is CEO.
Multi-ethnic Malaysia, one of south-east Asia’s most vibrant economies, offers wonderful beaches, excellent scenery, and dense rainforests. Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin is Head of State. About 7.5 per cent of its population is reportedly of India background. (ANI)
