Hindus greet new World Communion of Reformed Churches & urge interfaith dialogue promotion
June 27th, 2010 - 4:39 pm ICT by ANINevada (US), June 27 (ANI): Hindus have sent greetings and good wishes to newly constituted World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and its President Jerry Pillay.
World Alliance of Reformed Churches and Reformed Ecumenical Council have merged to form WCRC in a meeting currently underway at Grand Rapids (Michigan, USA), representing a global network of about 80 million members from 227 churches in 108 countries whose roots go back to 1875.
WCRC-a fellowship of Presbyterian, Congregational, Reformed, Waldensian, Uniting and United Churches-is born through this historic merger and will be headquartered in Geneva (Switzerland).
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, welcomed some of the themes of the new church, like promoting economic, ecological and gender justice around the world; human rights of all people; responsible use of earth’s God-given resources; defending civil and religious rights; alleviating poverty and promoting equity between men and women; focus on marginalized people; and involvement in social justice issues.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, commended Pillay for foreseeing interfaith dialogue with persons of other faiths and saying, “The work of the church doesn’t exclude people of other faiths”. (ANI)
