Hindus greet Chaplin’s grandson for undergoing traditional Hindu wedding in India
February 20th, 2011 - 4:11 pm ICT by ANINevada (US), Feb 20 (ANI): Hindus have greeted film-icon Charlie Chaplin’s grandson Mark Joplin for reportedly going through a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony in India.According to reports, Joplin (60) and Terra Tiffany (52), both Americans, married in remote Gokarna village, about 453 kilometers from Bangalore, in Karnataka state in Southwestern India with proper Hindu rituals.Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, welcomed Joplin-Tiffany for choosing traditional Hindu marriage with due respect to rich traditions of Hinduism, world’s oldest religion.Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, said that vivah (marriage) was one of the major sanskar (sacrament) of Hindus which involved rich and ancient rituals.Both groom and bride are reportedly keenly interested in Hinduism; have conducted seminars on its various aspects in USA; play Indian musical instruments and chant kirtan; and have adopted gurus. Joplin speaks five Indian languages.Oscar winner Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin (1889-1977) (The Great Dictator) had 11 children from four wives.Gokarna, a Hindu pilgrimage center full of coconut and palm trees which finds mention in ancient Bhagvat-Puran; is known for Lord Mahabaleshwar and other temples, Sanskrit Maths, and pristine beaches; and attracts millions of devotees on Mahashivratri festival.Hinduism is third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.(ANI)
