HINDRAF chief files RM 100 m libel suit against ten persons
January 1st, 2010 - 1:35 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Kuala Lumpur, Jan.1 (ANI): HINDRAF chairman P. Waytha Moorthy is suing Penang Deputy Chief Minister Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, six local media organisations and three others for RM 100 million for defamation.
According to the New Strait Times, he filed the suit though his counsel, P. Uthayakumar, at the Civil High Court registry here on Thursday.
He named Dr Ramasamy, Perak assemblyman A. Siva-nesan, DAP leader V. Gana-batirau and ASP K. Vasantha Kumar as the first four defendants. The other defendants are Makkal Osai Sdn Bhd, Tamil Nesan Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Nanban Sdn Bhd, Malaysia-Kini.Com Sdn Bhd, The Malaysian Insider Sdn Bhd and Star Publications Berhad.
In his statement of claim, Waytha Moorthy said Ramasamy had written and published an article with false information, defaming him in the Makkal Osai newspaper dated Aug 11.
He also claimed that Sivanesan, Ganabatirau and Vasantha Kumar defamed him in several articles published in Makkal Osai, The Star, Malaysia Nanban, Tamil Nesan and online news sites The Malaysian Insider and Malaysiakini in July and August.
He is seeking RM 10 million in damages from each defendant, the Bernama news agency reported. (ANI)
