Himach Pradesh to register foreign tourists, migrant labourersApril 24th, 2008 - 9:51 pm ICT by admin
Shimla, April 24 (IANS) The Himachal Pradesh government Thursday announced it would register all the foreign tourists and migrant labourers in the state. “Orders have been issued to the concerned district authorities to register foreign tourists after checking their passports and visas, and maintain a record of every foreigner visiting the state,” said Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
“We welcome foreign tourists to the state but we are also concerned about their security. This is also being done to check over staying by many foreigners, particularly in the Kullu valley and also in Dharamsala,” he said.
Himachal Pradesh is a popular destination for foreigners.
Dhumal also spoke about registering migrant labourers who have been coming to the state in large numbers in recent years.
“Labourers without identity cards will not be allowed to work in the state,” he said.
“The home, labour and law departments have been asked to start the exercise. Framing of guidelines is being done in co-ordination with concerned departments,” he said.
Lately, there has been growing concern about rising crime rate in the hill state, particularly in areas where migrant labourers are working in large numbers.
