Herriman, Sep 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) 580 people were accommodated in Herriman High school all through out Sunday night, as they were subjected to a wild fire, that charred 4300 acres of land, leaving them homeless. For more than 36 hours, these evacuees have been out of their homes, witnessing an immense loss of their property. However, many residents have refused to evacuate despite the prolonged liveliness of the wildfire and a few, who were open to the machine gun firing, were allowed to stay back in there own residences.
1200 homes, most of which are concentrated in the hilly region, have been evacuated so far. Meanwhile, on Monday, the American Red Cross Center decided to allot another accommodation in a church, at a nearby LDS Stake Center at 4501 W 11800 S for the victims, so that the Herriman High School can resume with its daily school schedule.
Firefighters, in spite of their desperate efforts, cannot combat the disaster and bring the situation under control. The wild fire has already destroyed the natural vegetation of the area and the climate. To make the matter worse, it is getting more intensified with the wind, thereby freezing the foliage. The landscape has been burned into ashes, destroying four houses, several farms and poultries. The pauperized farm animals, who fortunately survived the disaster, have been restored Ching Farm Rescue and Sanctuary.
The recovery cost has been very heavy so far, with the active involvement of volunteers, veterinary doctors, firefighters and others expenses like transportation and maintenance. However, the cost of the damages caused due the mishap has not been estimated yet. The fire fighters are looking forward to the moment, when the wind will get less intensified and things can get a bit more manageable.
