Herald editor upset over hacking of site after Malaysian HC ‘Allah’ decision
January 6th, 2010 - 5:07 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Petaling Jaya, Jan 6 (ANI): The Herald website has been hacked three times after a landmark Malaysian High Court decision allowed the catholic newspaper to use word Allah.
Editor Father Andrew Lawrence described that the hacking was meant to create a climate of fear and perceived threat to national security.
He lamented that no action had been taken by the authorities against the offenders although these tantamount to contempt of court and the website has also been inundated with “malicious profanities”.
Father Andrew is also saddened that police reports were lodged against the Catholic weekly despite the December 31 High Court decision allowing it to use the word “Allah” in its publications.
“All this has been done within the knowledge of the Government and yet no action has been taken against these people in what is tantamount to a contempt of court, intimidation and subjudice comments,” The Star quoted him, as saying.
Father Andrew said such actions were meant to pressure the court in reversing its decision.
He also expressed surprise over the speed at which a date was obtained for the hearing for a stay application of the court decision. (ANI)
