Heathrow Airport Cancels Fliights As Heavy Snowfall Throwns U.K. Out Of Gear

London, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With Christmas just round the corner and festive season knocking at the door, the vacation plans of thousands of Britons has been thrown out of gear in the wake of the incessant snowfall that has already wrecked a havoc in many parts of the country. With heavy snow being dumped in the national capital for the last few days, London’s Heathrow Airport has announced that it would fail to accept arriving flights while large number of flights have already been canceled keeping in view the adverse weather conditions.
As the temperatures dipped to -5.2C overnight, Heathrow Airport officials have reiterated that only a few number of flights would be plying from the airport while large number of passengers were left stranded in the airport. Andrew Teacher, a spokesperson of the airport operator BAA has confirmed to media outlets that owing to the unfavorable weather conditions, thousands of passengers had to spend the night in the airport while adding that the main problem that the officials are facing is getting rid of the snow that has accumulated in the runway. At the same time, the airport spokesperson emphasized that all the necessary steps are being taken to ensure that normal operations of the flight can resume from Monday.
Apart from United Kingdom, countries across Europe are reeling under the onslaught of heavy snowfall and blizzard that has resulted in a nightmarish situation for travelers ahead of a holiday week. Meanwhile weather officials have revealed that the sub-zero temperatures and snowfall is likely to continue in United Kingdom at least till Monday.
