Head of vandalised statue found after 200 years
September 1st, 2010 - 10:35 am ICT by IANSRome, Sep 1 (IANS/AKI) The head of a 15th century statue of the Virgin Mary that was reportedly stolen 200 years ago has finally been found.
The head of “The Nativity” marble piece made by Pietro Bernini, the father of Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, will be reunited Sep 4 with the rest of the sculpture, the Italian culture ministry said.
The head was tracked down by an art historian in a private home.
