Hawaii Rocked By 4.7 Magnitude Earthquake

Makena, Nov 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Hawaiian islands were witness to a considerably strong earthquake on Tuesday evening with its epi-center at a distance of 10 miles from the Makena in Maui. The magnitude of the tremor has been measured to be 4.7 on the Richter scale although reports of any significant damage has not been available till now. According to the United States Geological Society, another earthquake was felt in part of Hawaii later on the same day but it was of smaller magnitude compared to the previous one.
Officials of the United States Geological Society have confirmed that the first earthquake was centered at a distance of 30 miles from Lanai City as well as 30 miles from the south-southwest direction of Wailuku on Tuesday evening. The first tremor was felt by residents across Maui while people in the Hawaiian island of Oahu are also reported to have felt the earthquake. Following the first tremor, officials of the U.S. Geological Society also corroborated that a second earthquake hit the Hawaiian islands at an interval of 20 minutes which was measured to be of 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale. The center of the second tremor was at a distance of 19 miles in the northeastern direction of Puako and was triggered around 18 miles below the surface of the Earth, seismologists have revealed.
In the meanwhile, the tremor was also felt at the Lahaina Civic Center which was host to the game between the No. 13 Washington and No. 8 Kentucky at the Maui Invitational. The earthquake was felt during a stoppage in game which later resumed. However, officials have confirmed that Lahaina Civic Center did not suffer any damage in the tremor.
