Port Au Prince (Haiti), Jan.18 (ANI): An estimated 70,000 bodies have been buried in mass graves in Haiti since last week’s devastating earthquake, the government has announced. It is feared the death toll from the Haitian earthquake could reach 200,000, but aid groups have warned that if more medical supplies do not arrive soon, thousands more will die from their injuries.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon took a helicopter tour to survey the devastated Minustah headquarters in the Haitian capital, reports The Telegraph.Ban also met with a distraught UN employee, Nieves Alvarez, who pleaded with him to save her husband, a Belgian working as an adviser to Haiti’s President Rene Preval.

She said her husband was still buried under the rubble of the Minustah headquarters five days after the quake. Ban promised that everything was being done to rescue as many people as possible. (ANI)
