Gunmen fail to assassinate Afghan governor
October 26th, 2009 - 8:15 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Jalalabad (Afghanistan), Oct.26 (ANI): Gunmen failed to assassinate the Governor of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province, Gul Agha Sherzai, on Monday.
A former cabinet minister and former governor of Kandahar province, Sherzai was attacked by two gunmen armed with AK-47 machine guns and hand grenades at an information technology conference near the governor’s office in Jalalabad, said a provincial government spokesman.
One of the attackers was killed in the ensuing encounter with security men. The second attacker has been captured.
Nangarhar is one of the largest and most prosperous provinces in Afghanistan and shares a long border with Pakistan. (ANI)
