Gujarat relives Akshardham attackJuly 26th, 2008 - 10:14 pm ICT by IANS
Ahmedabad, July 26 (IANS) As a series of bomb explosions went off across Gujarat’s principal city Saturday evening, people in Gujarat recalled another terror attack in the state - on the Akshardham temple in neighbouring Gandhinagar six years ago. On Sep 22, 2002, two Pakistan-backed terrorists had attacked the sprawling temple of the Swaminarayan sect in the state capital. They held devotees and a large number of tourists from across the nation hostage for hours before a team of the National Security Guards (NSG) flushed them out in an overnight operation.
The terror attack had claimed 46 lives, including those of the two attackers.
