Green light for Jackson memorabilia tour

Los Angeles, Aug 22 (DPA) A Los Angeles judge gave the green light for an exhibit of Michael Jackson memorabilia to be shown in a tour of three cities, a celebrity news website reported.
The tour could take in up to $6 million for the estate of the late singer, who died unexpectedly at age 50 in June. The judge passed the ruling Friday.
AEG, whose plans for a huge Jackson concert tour were derailed by the singer’s untimely death, plans to exhibit the memorabilia of the King of Pop parallel to the premiere of a film, “Michael Jackson THIS IS IT,” in late October.
The film is to contain excerpts from the videotapes of Jackson’s rehearsals for the tour.
Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson, who has custody of his three children and is executor of his will, had objected to the deal. She was worried about its potential damage to her son’s legacy, her attorney told the court.
She also objected to the assignment of only 50 percent of the proceeds to the estate.
A separate attorney representing the pop singer’s children favoured the proposed memorabilia tour.
The other half of the proceeds will go to AEG, which is trying to recoup some of the huge losses incurred through his death.
