googleDec 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The African American woman Rosa Parks who heralded a new era of civil rights movement by refusing to give up her seat to white passenger way back in 1955, was honored by the Google Doodle on Tuesday. Despite the fact that the first day of December is observed as the World Aids Day across the globe, the world number one search engine dedicated Tuesday’s Doodle to the anniversary of the famous bus ride by the high-spirited black woman which later led to the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott.

The logo that has been used by Google to commemorate the day is as significant as the bus ride incident that took place more than five decades ago. The logo features four children belonging to different races running in front of a bus instead of the letter ‘ogl’ in the term Google. At the same time, netizens who click on the logo are automatically directed to different search results relating to the noted civil rights activist. The commemorative logo on Google is the latest initiative of the search engine to recognize important event or the works of prominent personalities.

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was on a bus to Alabama when she refused to comply by the order of the bus conductor and give her seat to a white passenger. Although the civil rights activist was taken into custody for her disobedience, her spirit and arrest sparked a huge outcry and seized the attention of the nation towards the segregationist laws that were prevalent at that time. This later resulted in the Montgomery Bus Boycott that was an important step in the civil rights movement.
