London, Dec 11 (ANI): A star-studded Gillette advert featuring Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Thierry Henry has been named as the worst TV advert of the year.
The 2008 razor commercial starring the golfer, tennis champion and former Premiership football star, was voted as the worst commercial of 2008 for its cringe-worthy imagery.
“The Gillette ad is an own goal, a double fault and a bunker shot rolled into one, The Telegraph quoted campaign editor Claire Beale as saying.
He added: “To secure three of the world’’s most famous sports stars would have cost Gillette millions but is such a wasted opportunity as the creative lacks any charm or wit. We see thousands of TV ads created for a British audience each year and this one stands out as the worst.”
Standing at the second position is the Specsavers advert in which lyrics promoting the optician appears in time with Edith Piaf’’s rendition of Je Ne Regrette Rien.
The third spot was claimed by a Renault ad, known for its poor dubbing.
While the fourth position is taken by an advert of Warburtons showing an Asian businessman who comes to the UK and sees Warburtons branded everywhere, the fifth position is taken by John Lydons Country Life.
The Top 10 worst ads for 2008 are:
1. Gillette - Roger Federer, Thierry Henry and Tiger Woods
2. Specsavers - Edith Piaf
3. Renault
4. Warburtons
5. Country Life - John Lydon
6. Kellogg’’s ad featuring Kelly Holmes
7. Orangina
8. Premier Inn
9. Samsung
10. Sofa maker DFS (ANI)
