London, Jan 27 (ANI): A German motorist, who crashed his car into the roof of a church after he missed a bend in the road, is said to be seriously injured.

The 23-year-old driver had gone off the road, broke through a barrier, and hit a bank at such speed that his black Skoda was propelled into the air before crash-landing on the roof of the local Lutheran church in Limbach-Oberfrohna.

According to the police, the bank acted like a springboard, sending the Skoda flying more than 100 ft before it was left wedged into the roof more than 20ft above the ground.

We”ve never ever had a case of a car landing in a church before, the Telegraph quoted Frank Fischer, a spokesman for Chemnitz police in the state of Saxony, as saying after the accident on January 25 night.

Though he has suffered very serious injuries, the driver, who has not been named, was lucky that they are not life threatening.

The police said that the accident could have been because of high speed driving.

The car was not damaged totally and police estimate that it would take around 9,000 pounds to fix it, after it was extracted from the roof by a crane, though the cost of damage to the church has not yet been assessed. (ANI)
