German football to commemorate school killings victimsMarch 13th, 2009 - 8:12 pm ICT by IANS
Frankfurt, March 13 (DPA) A minute’s silence will be observed at matches this weekend while German footballers will play with black armbands in memory of the 15 victims who were killed in a shooting rampage by a teenager.
“We are deeply moved,” said German football league (DFL) top official Christian Seifert, naming the event “a national tragedy.”
The 17-year-old gunman shot dead nine students and three teachers in his former school in the small southern German town of Winnenden. He then fled, killing three other persons before seemingly killing himself 40 kilometres away during a gunfight with police.
