German football agrees to earlier Sunday kick-off
April 24th, 2009 - 10:07 pm ICT by IANSDusseldorf, April 24 (DPA) German football authorities agreed Friday to go ahead with a Sunday afternoon Bundesliga game from next season despite opposition from the nation’s amateur game.
The German Football Federation’s assembly approved the 3.30 p.m. (1330 GMT) kick-off for one game, with another match beginning at 5.30 p.m.
At present usually two matches are held on Sunday at 5 p.m.
The new afternoon kick-off time was opposed by amateur football officials because it clashes with fixtures in lower and local leagues.
As part of a new television deal over the next four seasons, a 6.30 p.m. Saturday kick-off is also being introduced for one match.
A match will also continue to be played on Friday evening.
