Geordie accent is ’sexiest’ in UK
April 12th, 2010 - 6:02 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 12 (ANI): The Geordie accent has been voted the sexiest in the UK, and the credit for its popularity goes to celebrities such as Cheryl Cole.
Research on different ways of speaking in British cities found Newcastle was the most appealing, followed by Edinburgh and then Belfast.
The least attractive accent was Birmingham, followed by Wolverhampton and Bradford.
Cole, a pop singer, was concerned that her attempts to break the US would be hampered because Americans would not be able to understand her ‘weird accent’.
However, a poll of 5,000 people for Travelodge found that her way of speaking was the sexiest in the UK.
‘No doubt the nation’s sweetheart Cheryl Cole has certainly helped to place the jolly Geordie accent as top of the UK’s regional accents listing as we cannot get enough of her,” the Telegraph quoted spokeswoman for the budget hotel chain Shakila Ahmed as saying.
And the top ten cities for accents are:
