Botox ApplesCashmere, Dec 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A reputed Canadian Biotechnology firm has asked United States to approve apples which are genetically modified and will not turn brown after it is sliced. The company officials said that the new technology would boost sales of apples for salads, snacks and for other use. The US apple growing company said that it is too early to say if they would use the apples as at first they would be checking the quality of the apple, its planting costs and also they would have to keep in mind if people would buy them. Andrew Kimbrell, executive director of the Center for Food Safety, however, said that people would not buy a botox apple and it is going to be total failure.

Washington State apple commission’s president Todd Fryhover said that “Genetically modified” is a bad word for the food industry. On the other hand, U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has received about 100 petitions for these genetically modified fruits. Neal Carter, the president of Okanagan Specialty Fruits of Summerland, British Columbia said that the new kind of apples would lower the cost of fresh slices’ production and the apples can be used for salads and quick meals.

Neal Carter said that the genetically modified apples look like real apples and the best part is these apples do not turn brown when they are sliced. The Canadian company says that the apples are rinsed in ascorbic acid and calcium along with vitamin C to maintain its freshness. Tony Freytag, the spokesperson of the company said that presently food safety is the biggest issue. However, now it is up to the consumers, who would make the final call.
