Gen. Petraeus Asserts That The Taliban Still Possesses The Advantage In Some Districts Of Afghanistan
August 31st, 2010 - 6:15 pm ICT by Sampurn WireWashington, August 31, 2010 (Just Flashed): Gen. David Petraeus happens to be the high-ranking commander of the American military and also the commanding officer of NATO in Afghanistan. He has asserted in a conversation with NATO TV that, regardless of the recent victories by the coalition military, the Taliban mutineers still keep hold of the initiative in certain regions of Afghanistan.
Gen. Petraeus has articulated that the NATO forces had rendered null and void some of the achievements that the Taliban had executed in recent years in the southern zones of Helmand and Kandahar and in the region of Kabul, the Afghan capital. However, Petraeus also voiced during the conversation with NATO TV that he did not believe that the global military coalition in Afghanistan has invalidated the thrust of the Taliban in all areas. Work still needed to be done to wholly exterminate the grasp of the Taliban.
Petraeus observed that the Afghan security services were augmenting faster than anticipated. The Afghan army currently consists of 134,000 males and the strength of the police personnel is slightly more.
The military, directed by the NATO in Afghanistan, has approximately 140,000 troops. Taliban insurrectionists are likely to be between 25,000 and 30,000.
