Garze (China), April 4 (Xinhua) A government official was injured seriously in fresh riot by Tibetans in southwestern China Friday, officials said. The riot took place in Tibetan prefecture of Garze in Sichuan province Thursday evening when hundreds of pro-Tibet demonstrators turned violent and attacked local offices, officials said.
“Police were forced to fire warning shots and put down the violence,” a provincial government official said.
The wounded official, who is from the People’s Congress of the Garze county, was on an inspection tour to the town when the riot broke out, he said.
