London, January 29 (ANI): French Human Rights Minister Rama Yade is the second glamorous icon of ethnic diversity who faces eviction from the Nicolas Sarkozy Government, after refusing to “leave quietly” and join the European Parliament.
Government sources have revealed that the 34-year-olds fate was likely to be e sealed in a face-to-face showdown with Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace on Wednesday after a council of ministers meeting
“The president freezes out his human rights secretary and denigrates her in public - even if he doesn”t mention her name, the Telegraph quoted the sources as telling the newspaper Le Monde.
The newspaper revealed that Yade had sent heart-shaped chocolates to Sarkozy last week along with a note requesting a meeting on Wednesday, in a bid to keep her job.
However, according to the paper, her move turned out to be a futile gesture.
“Chocolates specially ordered in the shape of a heart, letters sent to the president - nothing will work,” the paper said.
Though Sarkozy may not sack her immediately, the President is said to have made up his mind in this regard.
“It’’s completely over (with Rama), she’’s unplugged. She will not be kept on in the next government (reshuffle),” Le Canard Enchaine, a satirical weekly, cited Sarkozy as saying
Yade’’s expected government exit follows last week’’s decision by Sarkozy to remove Rachida Dati, the justice minister who recently returned to work five days after giving birth.
Dati, 43, is expected to quit the justice ministry in June, if she wins a seat in the European Parliament. (ANI)
