French PM congratulates Putin

Paris, March 6 (IANS) French Prime Minister Francois Fillon Tuesday congratulated Vladimir Putin on his victory in the Russian presidential election.

In a telephone conversation, Fillon thanked Putin for Russia’s efforts to secure the evacuation of journalists blocked last week in Homs in Syria and reiterated the desire to work with Russia for the settlement of the Syrian situation.

Referring to the bilateral cooperation initiated during recent years under the Franco-Russian inter-governmental seminars chaired by two heads of government, the French prime minister expressed his wish to see these partnerships continue to strengthen, Xinhua reported.

Putin, Russia’s incumbent prime minister, has won 63.6 percent of the votes after all ballots were counted, the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) said Monday.
