Freezing cold sweeps China
January 26th, 2012 - 6:27 am ICT by IANSBeijing, Jan 26 (IANS) Bitter cold conditions will continue to prevail in most parts of China over the next few days, met officials said.
The National Meteorological Centre has forecast freezing rain in southern Guizhou and Hunan provinces, while light snow or drizzle was expected in the northwestern regions.
Most parts of southern China were covered with fog Wednesday, reducing visibility in parts of Yunnan, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang provinces to less than 1,000 meters, Xinhua reported.
In southwestern Guizhou province, freezing rain threatened to disrupt power supplies. Major power lines were coated with ice. Over 2,000 workers were deployed to ensure supply. The cold weather is expected to linger on for another week.
