Four officials sacked as 18 kids die in accident
November 17th, 2011 - 5:11 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Nov 17 (IANS) Four officials were sacked in China after 18 kindergarten children were killed in an accident.
At least 20 people, including 18 pre-schoolers, were killed and 45 injured Wednesday when an overloaded kindergarten school bus collided with a coal-laden truck. The accident took place in Yulinzi township of Qingyang city in Gansu province.
Shanghai Daily reported that two deputy county mayors in northwest Gansu province lost their jobs while the local education bureau director and traffic police chief were also sacked.
The school minibus, having just nine seats, was packed with 63 children.
The bus had received a safety check just three days before the accident, said Lu Huadong, an official.
Initial investigations found the bus was moving at high speed on the wrong side of the road, the media report said.
