Four NATO troops killed in Afghan crash

Kabul, June 9 (IANS) A helicopter of NATO-led forces crashed in Sangin district of Helmand province in south Afghanistan Wednesday killing four soldiers, an official spokesman said.
“A copter of international troops crashed in Sangin district killing four aboard,” Daud Ahmadi, spokesman for the provincial administration told Xinhua. He did not provide more details.
The military said four NATO troops were killed in the crash.
A Taliban-purported spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi claimed responsibility and told media via telephone from an undisclosed location that the militants shot down the copter in Helmand province, the xinhua said.
Ahmadi also said it was a Chinook helicopter and crashed in Sangin bazaar.
Meanwhile, NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in a press release said that an ISAF service member died as a result of an improvised explosive device attack in south Afghanistan Wednesday. However, it did not disclose the victim’s nationality.
Militancy and conflicts have been on constant rise in Afghanistan since the onset of spring as both the security forces and Taliban militants have been trying to consolidate their positions.
