Barack Obama Washington, Apr.10 (ANI): Rick Santorum has scored an absolute victory in a straw poll among Republicans in the Greenville County Republican convention.

The former Pennsylvania senator won 31 percent of the vote from a group of 413 activists who cast ballots at South Carolina’s largest county.

Newt Gingrich came in second place, taking 14 percent, followed by Michele Bachmann and Donald Trump each capturing 7 percent of the votes to tie for third place.

Santorum has been a familiar presence in South Carolina, visiting the state more than any other potential presidential candidate, Politico reports.

Santorum and Gingrich both spoke at the meeting, and criticized President Barack Obama. Both have made multiple visits to the state in the last year.

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour also addressed the Greenville Republicans, but failed to impress the audience. He only got 5 percent of the votes in the poll.

Mitt Romney, who has yet to visit South Carolina this year, got only six percent of the votes, as did Chris Christie, who has repeatedly said he won’t run for President.
Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee each took 5 percent and Sarah Palin only got 4 percent of the votes in the poll. (ANI)
