Princess Diana London, Mar.19 (ANI): Former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff surprised a Westleigh High School student in morning assembly by presenting him an award.

Cameron Foster, 15, was presented the Princess Diana Award for his fund raising efforts he has made in the past. He has raised more than 10,000 pounds for sports disability charities, since spending time in a wheelchair after an accident in 2005.

Though he started walking again after six weeks, he decided to raise money for those less fortunate.

“I spent time in a wheelchair and I realized how unfortunate people were who were permanently disabled and who weren’t able to get back onto their feet and participate in sports,” The BBC quoted him, as saying.

“I thought I’d try and give something back and try and raise some money to buy sports equipment for people who weren’t as fortunate as me,” he added.

Flintoff said that his mother, Sue, who had heard about Cameron’s fundraising effort, wrote to him and asked him if he would present the award.

“She told me all about Cameron and all about the award. He’s an amazing young lad and a role model not just for kids at this school, but for kids everywhere,” he said.

Foster said that it was an amazing experience for him when Andrew Flintoff walked through the door.

“It was amazing when Andrew Flintoff walked through the door - I mean what an experience,” he said.

“I just came into school thinking it was a normal school day and then Freddie Flintoff walks round the corner and into the school assembly,” he added.

After the presentation Foster got an opportunity to play cricket with Flintoff in the school sports hall. (ANI)
