Five killed in Italian military plane crash
November 23rd, 2009 - 11:40 pm ICT by IANSPisa, Nov 23 (IANS/AKI) At least five people were killed Monday when an Italian military C130 Hercules aircraft crashed during a training exercise near the central city of Pisa’s Galilei airport, officials said.
The plane crashed at 14.10 p.m. and burst into flames on the runway immediately after it took off.
Ambulances, firemen, police and airport staff rushed to the crash scene, where firefighters battled the blaze. There were five people on board the plane, sources from the Italian airforce told Adnkronos.
Pisa’s mayor Marco Filippeschi said rescuers had found the bodies of all five crew members.
