Five die as mud mound caves in
October 28th, 2010 - 1:44 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 28 (IANS) Five people, including three children, were killed and six injured when a mud mound caved in on them in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district Thursday, police said.
The accident took place in Sarai Mohana village, where people were digging the ground to use the mud to renovate their houses.
“Two women and three children, a boy and two girls aged 10-15 years, died on the spot. We rescued six others who were buried,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Sansar Singh said in Varanasi, some 250 km from Lucknow.
“The condition of five of the injured is critical,” he added.
The district administration has announced a compensation of Rs.20,000 for the family of the dead.
