Fire, blasts at Moscow military base
July 16th, 2011 - 12:42 am ICT by IANSMoscow, July 15 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A fire broke out at a military base in Moscow Friday, accompanied by a series of explosions, an official said.
A defence ministry spokesman said there were no noxious substances on the premises and there was no danger to public health.
He confirmed there were no injuries.
The fire spread over an area of around 400 square metres before it was brought under control.
A report said the explosions could have been caused by oxygen and acetylene tanks stored in a warehouse on the base.
More than 10 fire trucks were at the scene and nearby streets were closed to traffic.
