Alex Ferguson London, Sept.18 (ANI): Manchester United coach-cum-manager Alex Ferguson has said that center-back Rio Ferdinand will not be the club’s captain for the 2010-11 season.

“Nemanja Vidic has been given the captain’s armband because he has been available all the time,” The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.Ferdinand, 31, has never been United’s official skipper but he has led the team out many times because of club captain Gary Neville’s injury woes.

Many fans expected him to get the nod - particularly when he was given the honour against Rangers in midweek. But now, Ferguson has confirmed it will be defender Vidic, 28, who carries out the duties on a more regular basis.

Fergie said: “We want it to be a player who’s consistently available for us.” (ANI)
