Tripoli, Mar 23 (ANI): A female Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot is contributing to put up a fight against the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, with reports saying that only one female of ten Typhoon pilots deployed to enforce the no-fly zone is flying combat jets over Libya.

Stationed at the British advanced post in southern Italy, she has taken control of one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets, which travels at 1,550mph and can climb to 40,000 feet within two minutes, the Daily Mail reports.

She is believed to be the first woman to pilot a Typhoon, worth 125million pounds, and flies at exactly the same combat level as her male colleagues, the paper said.

An RAF source said that she has been chosen for the operation based purely on her ‘abilities’.

“There are no egos and from the support staff to the pilots, everyone gets on with it and pulls together to get the job done,” the source added.

The name of the woman, however, has not been disclosed. (ANI)
