Salem, Oregon, Dec 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Bruce and Joshua Turnidge, the father-son duo who were convicted for planting a bomb at a bank in the state of Oregon, have been sentenced to death. The verdict was given out on Wednesday by an Oregon jury while the two convicts appeared to be emotionless as Judge Tom Hart read out the decision. The two men, 59-year-old Bruce Turnidge and his son Joshua Turnidge, 24 would be formally sentenced in the bombing case on January 24.
Earlier this month, the father-son pair was convicted of the charges that were leveled against them which included eighteen counts of aggravated murder to each of them in the bombing incident which took place on December, 2008 at a bank in Woodburn in which two police officers lost their lives. The Oregon jury reached the conclusion of awarding the death sentence to the father-son duo after deliberating over the case for less than a day and found them guilty of the multiple charges that were levied against them. In the trial that spanned across three months, the prosecutors emphasized that both Bruce and Joshua Turnidge harbored anti-government feelings as they hated authorities and could go to any extent to get money.
During the trial, the prosecutors emphasized that the father-son duo should be put to death as they might prove to be a danger to prison staff or might preach their anti-government viewpoint to other inmates who would later be released from the prison. The prosecutors also emphasized on the point that as police killers, Bruce and Joshua Turnidge are likely to be quite popular among the inmates.
