Falling slab creates panic in Surat hospital

Surat, July 28 (IANS) With Gujarat in the grip of fear following the Ahmedabad serial bombings of Saturday, even a slab falling in a hospital in Surat created panic with patients and doctors running for cover. When a portion of the ceiling in G-0 ward of the New Civil Hospital fell late Sunday night, doctors, other staff members and patients feared the worst and there was a chaos for a while.

Security personnel rushed to the spot and broke the doors of the ward only to find a portion of slab lying on the ground.

Senior staff of the hospital who rushed to spot assuaged patients that a part of the slab had fallen as renovation work was going on in the ward.

Earlier in the day, two cars were discovered in this south Gujarat city laden with explosive materials.
