London, Apr 2 (ANI): Indians desperate to enter Britain before tough new rules come into force next week have applied in large numbers for visa as fake students.

Up to 40 per cent of all applicants at the British High Commission in Delhi since Christmas have tried to trick their way in, officials say.

In one extraordinary case of blatant cheating, of 200 “accountancy students” just six were able to speak English well enough to describe what they would do here, the Daily Express reports.

A British official in India said: “There are widespread attempts to deceive and defraud, using the student visa system. Most involve private colleges.”

A travel agent in the northern state of Punjab said: “There are whole villages where all the young men have left.”

The new rules include tougher language tests, tighter controls on part-time working and a clampdown on funding and private colleges. (ANI)
