Eyes of seven pirates gouged out in Bangladesh
July 7th, 2011 - 4:46 pm ICT by IANSDhaka, July 7 (IANS) The eyes of seven pirates were gouged out by a mob in Bangladesh’s Bhola district, police said.
The Daily Star quoted the police as saying that a pirate gang last week abducted three fishermen and seized their fishing boats from Meghna estuary.
The pirates later negotiated for ransom for their release.
On Wednesday, security personnel chased several pirate trawlers to get a lead for cracking the abduction case.
One of the pirate trawlers landed in Char Kukrimukri area when its engine broke down. The pirates took shelter in a primary school.
The locals learnt about the presence of the men and attacked them, gouging out their eyes in the process.
