Expulsions will hurt MIC: ex-party youth chief

Klang (Malaysia), July 7 (ANI): A former chief of the youth wing of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has warned that the continued expulsion of members for asking its president to step down, would lead to the hands of the opposition being strengthened.
S.A. Vigneswaran claimed that the MIC was the only party that expelled members for asking its president to step down, adding that although this happened in other parties, no disciplinary action was taken.
The Star quoted Vigneswaran, as saying it had become akin to committing treason in MIC for a member to ask party president S. Samy Vellu to quit.
“However, this is not practised by MIC in the past, including during my tenure as Youth chief,” he said, adding that the recent expulsions were unprecedented.
When contacted, several MIC leaders said as long as Samy Vellu was able to invoke his powers, no one in the party could question him. (ANI)
