New York, Dec 27 (ANI): Takeru Kobayashi, the legendary hot-dog gobbler, failed in his bid to break world fruitcake eating championship.

The man, who ate 63 hotdogs in 12 minutes, left the world fruitcake eating record on the table on December 26.

Kobayashi, who lost the last two Nathan’’s Famous hot dog eating contests on Coney Island, blamed the density of the dessert and cherries that stuck to his molars.

“It was very difficult to eat because it was so dense,” The New York Daily News quoted Kobayashi, as saying.

Word has come in that he had 4 pounds 8 ounces of the holiday “treat” in 10 minutesmore than any human should ingest, but still shy of Sonya Thomas” record (4 pounds 14 ounces).

Kobayashi gulped down 63 hotdogs in 12 minutes in 2007.

The event was designed to raise awareness of the current crisis facing food banks nationwide. (ANI)
