Eva Longoria wants US to protect child farm workers
March 28th, 2011 - 11:55 am ICT by IANSGuadalajara (Mexico), March 28 (IANS/EFE) US actress Eva Longoria has said in Mexico that she hopes the US and Latin American nations will approve laws protecting children who are farm workers.
“This is a worldwide problem and I hope we can change the law now in the United States,” said the actress after the screening of the documentary “La cosecha” (”The Harvest”), in which she makes her debut as a co-producer and which was presented Sunday at the International Film Festival in Guadalajara.
The film, directed by Roberto Romano, shows the conditions in which three immigrant children, who work in the agriculture sector, live in the US.
Longoria, one of the stars participating in the festival that ends April 1, said that the documentary will be shown in movie theatres and that she will continue producing both documentary and fiction films.
She said that she was “concerned” about the inequality in health care received by Latinos and the education that is denied to the children of immigrants in the US.
Longoria has performed numerous charitable works and supported the Latino community in her country. She is the spokesperson for “Padres contra el cancer” (Parents against cancer), an organization that helps Latino children with cancer in the US.
Meanwhile, the artist announced that soon the film “Cristiada” will be screened in which she starred with Andy Garcfia and which was shot in several places in Mexico.
In addition, April 5, “Eva’s Kitchen” will go on sale, a cooking book in which Longoria resurrects the recipes enjoyed in her Latino family.
