Eurostar services suspended after Belgian train crash
February 18th, 2010 - 4:14 am ICT by IANSBrussels, Feb 18 (DPA) High speed train services between Brussels and London are to be suspended until Feb 22, as a result of Monday’s crash involving two Belgian commuter trains that killed 18 people, a spokesman for the Eurostar company said Wednesday.
Brum Smits told DPA that Eurostar would continue to offer a limited bus service from Brussels to Lille, in France, where hard-pressed customers would be able to catch a train to London.
Disruption to other international rail destinations, however, is expected to be less severe. A spokeswoman from Thalys, the Franco-Belgian-Dutch-German consortium that connects Paris to Cologne and Amsterdam via Brussels, said a limited service between Brussels and Paris is to restart Thursday.
Patricia Baars told dpa that seven trains would run during the day instead of the 25 normally scheduled. She also said there would be no direct services connecting Paris to Cologne, with passengers having to change trains in Brussels.
