EU congratulates Karzai on re-election
November 3rd, 2009 - 11:49 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Brussels, Nov 3 (IANS) The European Union (EU) welcomed Tuesday the conclusion of the presidential electoral process in Afghanistan and congratulated President Hamid Karzai on a second term in office.
“A credible and competent government, promoting national unity, must now be formed without delay. The European Union emphasises the need for President Karzai’s new government to swiftly develop a comprehensive agenda on the challenges facing the nation, especially on governance, the fight against corruption and security,” the EuAsiaNews reported quoting a statement by the EU presidency currently held by Sweden.
The EU said it is ready to engage early and substantially with the new government, on the basis of its recently adopted action plan on Afghanistan
