Bhopal, April 7 (IANS) Five members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were arrested in Madhya Pradesh Monday, taking to eight the total number of arrests since Sunday night. The five were arrested from Rajgarh district Monday evening on the leads provided by leaders of the outfit held elsewhere, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Awdhesh Pratap Singh told reporters in Guna. He did not give any more details.

Earlier Monday, two activists were held in Sehore district and the eighth SIMI activist was arrested from Indore Sunday night.

“Two SIMI activists were held on clues provided by those arrested (earlier) in Indore and Dhar, and we are finding out more about their activities. From the documents and diaries seized from them, it can be said that they were active members of the organisation,” said Sehore Police Superintendant Rajendra Prasad.

The arrested men have been identified as Saeed and Kareem, while the one held in Indore is said to be Naved Irfan.

“Naved has been working as a service engineer at a showroom in Bhopal and was in constant touch with SIMI leaders for whom he has been working,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (Indore) Madhu Kumar has reached Bangalore with three SIMI activists, on whom narco tests are to be conducted Tuesday.

“The three SIMI members were brought to Bangalore Sunday evening for the narco tests. They have been put under tight security of the Karnataka police. The tests would be conducted Tuesday and we hope to get details about their network and activities in the country,” Kumar told IANS by phone from Bangalore.

The court of chief judicial magistrate (Dhar) last week permitted the narco analysis tests to be conducted on Safdar Nagori, Kamruddin and Amil Pervez, who were arrested March 27.

Nagori and his associates were arrested with a cache of arms and ammunition in Indore. He has been accused of “publishing and distributing pamphlets inciting Muslims to fight against the government”.
