Washington, Jan 14(ANI): An Australian pair became the first duo to cross from Australia to New Zealand in a kayak.

James Castrission, 25, and Justin Jones, 24 reached New Zealand after paddling for 61 days in their 9m (30ft) kayak, struggling against the headwinds and currents in sea.

The duo, which struggled against the incapacitating physical, mental exhaustion and depleted fat reserves, said that they were inspired by Sir Edmund Hillary.

They completed the final few kilometres flanked by kayakers, pleasure craft and two Maori war canoes before a reunion with family and friends on the beach.

NZ, thank you, thank you, you guys rock. This is so cool, Times Online quoted Mr. Jones as telling the supporters

As many as 10,000 people turned up to see the pair. (ANI)
