Jakarta, May 23 (Xinhua) An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted the West Java Province of Indonesia’s Java Island Friday, the meteorology agency said. No damage or casualties have so far been reported.
The quake struck at 35 minutes after midnight (GMT). The epicentre was 128 km from Sukabumi town, an official said.
Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire” where two continental plates meet that cause frequent tectonic movements.
